Most postal systems in the European Union are suffering from rising costs and shrinking revenue.
The British Postal System is a prime example whereby deliveries to both business and private customers have been drastically curtailed due to rising costs and falling revenues.
Spanbox is not intended to replace: or compete with the Spanish Postal System.
It is intended to assist with the accessibility of the mail to the recipient after it has passed through the Spanish Postal System.
The Spanish Postal System on the Costa del Sol has the added difficulty in that the growth of tourism and influx of foreign residents has created a building boom along the length of its coast and far into the surrounding countryside. This has created a demand for postal deliveries which could never have been anticipated.
MAIL HANDLING CONCEPT :
The concept of Spanbox is to collect the mail from the Spanish Postal System and re-sort this mail into private postal collection boxes, which would be situated in easily accessible locations throughout the region. (Much like the system at present operated inside post offices). The boxholder, by way of an individual key, would be able to access his/her mail on a 24 hour basis.
SYSTEM OPERATION:
As an example, this is how a person would send and address a letter in order for it to be delivered to a Spanbox customer. After writing the letter, a postage stamp would be affixed and the letter deposited into any Spanish post box or national postal system in any country worldwide.
The Spanish Post Office would then deliver the letter to Apartado De Correos 178, Coin Malaga.
Spanbox would then collect the mail from the private Apartado De Correos 178, deliver it to the Spanbox mail collection unit situated at Mijas Costa and deposit the letter into box number C 750.
Sr. Gonzales would, at his leisure, go his private Spanbox, box open it with his private key and collect his letter.
SYSTEM OPERATION:
In order to cover most of the important highly populated areas, Spanbox has manufactured 6 mail delivery units which are installed at the following locations;
1. Centro Comercial La Trocha Coin
2. Benalmadena Costa
3. Elivira / Las Chapas
The sighting of the boxes is a critical factor, in that they must be in locations which are easily accessible 24 hours a day and where they will be a benefit to the local business community.
It is common sense to assume that if a unit was placed at a convenient central location, clients who will
regularly collect their mail are more likely to combine their mail collection with other shopping activities close to, and adjacent to, that location. The benefits to local businesses are obvious.

Spanbox mail collection boxes cost as little as € 70.00 including IVA/VAT per year.
